- Day 1:
Nairobi-Nguruman
We depart the bustling Kenyan capital then make our
way out of the city towards the town of Nguruman.
Passing prehistoric sites Located along Magadi road,
an hour’s drive and 70kms away from Nairobi,
Olorgesailie pre-historic site is world renown as
the “factory of stone tools” and the only place in
the world with the largest number of hand axes and
representing some of the first camping places of
early man. The prominence and accumulation of human tools
represents actual camping places of early men and
evidence that human species had a tropical origin.
The site is in a lake basin that existed about
100,000 to 200’000 years ago. Researchers, Dr. and Mrs. Leakey, started
investigations on the site in 1942 where they found
important evidence that concerns the habits and
activities of early prehistoric peoples of the
Acheuleus or “Hand axe” culture. Olorgesailie has excellently preserved biological
and cultural evidence about the evolution of man. This was made possible by heavy falls of alkaline
volcanic ash from the nearby Mt. Suswa and Mt.
Longonot, which might have contributed much to the
accumulated ash in the lake basin. There is evidence
of humid climate during part of the middle
Pleistocene that is given by temporary lakes and
swamps that exist in the area today. The sediments
left by the lake cover an area of 80 km2. through
small rural villages we slowly descend the steep
escarpment down to the town of Nguruman. Upon
arrival into camp we have a relaxing lunch and then
take a guided walk around the town before settling
into camp where we will meet our local guides and be
briefed on the challenge ahead before settling down
to our first night under canvas.
- Day 2:NGURUMAN
- ENKUTOTO
We wake early to take advantage of the cooler
temperatures and depart our campsite at a leisurely
pace. As we climb the escarpment we have excellent
views over the magical Lake Magadi which is
completely surrounded by salt flats, and home to
some of the world’s largest nesting colonies of
Flamingos. On a clear day we can also see across to
the Ngong hills and to Lake Natron in Tanzania. We
stop at the small rural village of Njoroi for lunch.
The last stretch of the day takes us over the Ewaso
Ngiro River which is supplied with glacial water
flowing down from Mt. Kenya. Tonight our camp at
Enkutoto is located in the heart of the upper Great
Rift Valley, and very close of the Tanzanian border.
Day 3:ENKUTOTO
– MORINJO We depart our campsite after breakfast and head
further along this area of the Rift Valley. Our
route today travels along elephant paths, through
lush vegetation. This is one of the few remaining
forested areas of East Africa. Tonight we camp in
the small town of Morinjo, where we enjoy an African
bushfire dinner under the stars.
Day 4:MORINJO
– LUTUKUNYI We depart Morinjo early, before the sun gets too hot
and trek to the modern Maasai town of Narosura for
lunch. Our local guides spend time to tour the town
and explain the impact of modernization on the
Maasai way of life before continuing our trek to the
watering hole of Lutukunyi – where camp will be set
up and waiting for us. Tonight we can put our feet
up as we enjoy another night dinning under the
stars.
Day 5:LUTUKUNYI
– MAJI MOTO An early start to take advantage of the cooler
temperatures and maximise the opportunity to spot
some of Africa’s finest game. The excitement grows
as the wildlife population of the area increases and
with that our chances of seeing elephant, impala,
zebra and giraffe in their natural habitat. Tonight
we camp at Maji Moto, a traditional Maasai village,
where we experience an authentic Maasai diner and
cultural evening.
Day 6:MAJI
MOTO – MAASAI MARA Early breakfast we depart camp and drive to Masai
Mara for a full day game drives with packed lunches.
Dinner and overnight at Masai Mara Safari Camp camp
for dinner and overnight stay
Day 7,Day 8:Maasai
Mara National Reserve Full day spent exploring the park in search of the
big 5. Optional hot air balloon safari can be
arranged at an extra cost of US$ 450 per person.
Dinner and overnight stay at Ilkeliani camp The Mara offers wildlife in such variety and
abundance that it is difficult to believe: over 450
species of animals have been recorded here. You will
easily see lions, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles,
giraffe, wildebeests, zebras, buffalo, warthogs,
hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, buffalo, leopard, many
kinds of antelopes and elephant. It is in the Mara
that perhaps the most spectacular event of the
natural world takes place. This is the annual
migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from
the Serengeti (Tanzania) in search of water and
pasture. Following on their heels are the predators
of the savanna- lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal,
hyena and vultures
Day 9:Masai
