Day 1 – Arrival - Entebbe
Receive briefing and finalise arrangements for visiting the island with JGI management at their offices in Entebbe. Boat from Entebbe pier to Ngamba Island. Watch the evening feeding of the chimpanzees. [Approximate cruising time: 45 minutes for fast boat; 1 ½ hours for traditional boat] O/N: Ngamba Island Camp (FB)
Day 2 – Gamba Island chimps tour
For those who have had the medical inoculations - a half day forest walk with the chimps. This is a unique activity getting you close to the primates. Lunch. In the afternoon walk or boat transfer to a neighbouring village or go for bird watching or simply relax at Camp enjoying the lake shores. Watch the sun go down! O/N: Ngamba Island Camp. (FB)
Day 3- Gamba –Kampala – Bwindi Gorillas tour
Boat transfer to Entebbe mainland. Drive to Bwindi via Kampala to the southwest and across the equator. Drive through savannah grasslands seeing banana plantations and herds or Ankole cattle with their incredibly long curving horns. You then ascend into the Kigezi Highlands known as the Switzerland of Africa with terraced farming and Mountain scenery. Drive through to Bwindi or Kisoro. Overnight at volcano Bwindi camp or Travellers rest hotel.
Day 4: Bwindi - Gorilla Tour
After an early breakfast and a briefing by a ranger guide enter the gorilla sanctuary for your adventure. The beauty of this rainforest is spectacular. The area offers dramatic steeply forested landscape and its incredibly dense but cris-crossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists .The time taken and the terrain varies with the movement of this great primates .The thrill of spending time observing this gentle endangered giants is an awesome exciting experience to be long savoured. Many find it to be a rare and moving opportunity. Overnight at Volcano Bwindi camp or Travellers rest hotel.
Day 5: Bwindi - Kampala
Sadly return to Kampala with great memories of and moments spent with the fascinating Mountain Gorillas. You will have a stopover in Mbarara for lunch. Drop off at your hotel for overnight stay
Day 6: Kampala – Nairobi -Masai Mara National Park
Early morning transfer to the airport to board a flight to Nairobi on arrival our driver will meet you then drive to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, the northern part of the Serengeti, one of Kenya's most favored game-viewing areas. The reserve covers 700 square miles of magnificent wilderness. It is the Africa of the imagination; endless reaches of acacia-dotted grasslands studded with hazy hills. Afternoon game drive to see the sundowner as hoping to see Lions in large prides, Elephants, buffalos, zebras and numerous plain .Dinner and overnight stay at Mara Enchoro Camp
Day 7/8: Masai Mara
Full days spent exploring the park in search of the big 5.Morning and afternoon game drives are offered. Optional hot air balloon safari can be arranged at an extra cost of US$ 450 per person. Dinner and overnight stay at Mara Enchoro Camp
Day 9: Masai Mara - Lake Nakuru National park
A last game run in the picturesque Maasai Mara in the morning through the Rift Valley drive to Lake Nakuru, a shallow alkaline lake in the Rift Valley, renowned for its spectacular flamingo population as one of the world's greatest ornithological spectacles. Although Lake Nakuru is primarily a bird sanctuary, there are a considerable number of animals to be encountered, such as many large game animals such as zebras, elephants and gazelles; this is one of our best chances of seeing rhinos. Lake Nakuru National Park was the first place in Kenya selected as a rhino reserve. Here is one of the few places where we can see Rothschild's giraffes. Day 10 : Lake Nakuru – Amboseli National park
Break the camp and proceed to Amboseli national park. Via Nairobi –Amboseli is the magnificent park at the foot hills of Mt.Kilimanjaro.After noon game drives followed by dinner and overnight stay at Kibo safari Camp.
This small park (at 392 sq km) is the second most popular park in Kenya after Maasai Mara, mainly due to the spectacular backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro on the southern boundary.
Day 11 : Amboseli National park
Full day spent exploring the park. Optional visit to Maasai villages can be arranged with our guide between game drives. Overnight stay at Kibo safari Camp -Amboseli National park is one of the most popular wildlife sanctuaries in Kenya. It is situated close to Kenya. It is situated close to Kenya- Tanzania border, The Park lies at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa (5,896m) whose snow-capped summit presents a splendid view on clear days. Amboseli National Park is often referred to as "The home of Elephants' some of the largest Elephant herds are found here. The Game Park also contains vast groups of Zebras, Wildebeests, Giraffes, Buffalos, Hippos and Antelopes. Also to be found in Amboseli are lions, leopards, Cheetahs, Rhinos and many species of plain game.
Day 12 : Amboseli - Lake Manyara
After breakfast, we drive into Tanzania via the Namanga border. We also pass through Arusha to Lake Manyara National park with lunch enroute. Regardless of the direction we approach Manyara from, the view is always fantastic. We proceed to a Twiga Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Lake Manyara is a shallow, alkaline lake that is part of the Rift Valley wall; the lake is at the base of this dramatic western escarpment giving it a beautiful and serene setting. In addition to this peaceful setting, Lake Manyara's main attractions are its rich bird life, tree climbing lions and its hippos, which you can see at a closer range than many other places. Lake Manyara also hosts thousands of flamingos at certain times of the year and has diverse vegetation ranging from savannah, to marshes and acacia woodland, enabling a variety of wildlife habitats including butterflies.
Day 13 : Lake Manyara - Serengeti National park
Morning game drives at Lake Manyara National park then proceed to Serengeti national park. Game is viewed as we proceed to the Ikoma Safari for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 14: Serengeti National park
Full day spent exploring the park dinner and overnight stay at Ikoma safari camp. Serengeti is Africa's most famous and Tanzania's largest park covering 14,736 sq km and is adjoining with the Masai Mara National reserve in Kenya. With a wildebeest population of about 2 million and several other hoofed species (which include zebra, Thomson's gazelle, impala, topi, Grants gazelle, Kongoni, Eland, Kirk's dik dik, klipspringer, roan, Oryx, oribi, waterbuck, buffalo, giraffe and warthog), the Serengeti is sure to attract a string of prey such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, golden jackals and bat eared foxes. Elephants are relatively scarce and the few remaining black rhinoceros are restricted to the Moru Koppies area. Serengeti also offers rewarding bird viewing with ostrich and kori bustard being common, a variety of larks, finches, and raptors can be seen but the most distinctive small bird is the lilac breasted roller.
Day 15 : Ngorongoro conservation area via Olduvai Gorge
Breakfast at leisure then view game as you drive to Ngorongoro conservation area via olduvai gorge with packed lunches enroute. Dinner and overnight stay at Rhino Lodge
The Olduvai Gorge cuts through rock beds layered in time sequence from 2 million years ago to the present. It is here where humanoid bones have been found dating back to over 1.75 million years including a direct ancestor of modern man. Fossil footprints (over three million years old) have also been found here and are the most ancient footprints yet discovered. There is an excellent site museum where you can explore the diggings with a guide and it is also a great place to view birds.
Day 16- Ngorongoro crater Tour
After early morning breakfast leave with picnic lunch for a full day crater tour. You will be taken 2000ft down the crater by a 4wheel drive vehicle, explore the crater before ascending and proceeding for dinner and overnight stay at Rhino lodge
The Ngorongoro Crater is often called ‘Africa’s Eden’ and the ‘8th Natural Wonder of the World,’ a visit to the crater is a main drawcard for tourists coming to Tanzania and a definite world-class attraction. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is home of Ngorongoro Crater. It was formed some 2.5 million years ago from a volcanic mountain sinking due to inactivity, and was initially thought to be higher than Tanzania’s famous Kilimanjaro. The crater has evolved into a unique and integral part of Tanzania’s eco-system. The crater is actually a caldera, measures 22.5 km’s across and the rim walls stand 600m high. Views from within and from the rim are breathtaking (as can be seen from the picture). The crater houses 30,000 animals and a large variety of birds, which rarely move from the area due to the availability of water through wet and dry seasons
Day 17 Ngorongoro - Tarangire
Breakfast then drive to Tarangire national park . Afternoon game drives followed by dinner and overnight stay at Tarangire Forest lodge
This National Park, gazetted in 1970, is 118km away from Arusha town, which covers an area off 2600sq km that's about 1600 miles and derivers its name from the Tarangire River that flows through the center of the park. The river flows from south to north/northwest and empties its water in Lake Burungi. An exceptional collection of "Acacia tortilis" and baobab trees ahs become synonymous with the name Tarangire National Park. The best time to visit Tarangire National Park to view the wildlife is in dry season, from June-October.
Day 18: Tarangire - Arusha - Nairobi
Breakfast then drive to Arusha - lunch then board and afternoon shuttle bus to Nairobi departing at 1400 hrs to arrive by 1800 hrs - drop off at the airport to board your home bound flight
